“Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future: it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology; it covers both the natural & spiritual, and it is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, as a meaningful unity.
Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th January

“When you see reality, no illusions can confuse you;
when you develop stability, things cannot shake it or take it away.”

Only by combining the heightened state of concentration known as calm abiding with special insight into the nature of reality can liberation from cyclic existence be attained. Calm abiding forms the basis for special insight. The great Indian master Atisha also points out that for Bodhisattvas the attainment of a calmly abiding mind is essential in order to develop the different kinds of extra-sensory perception that allow them to work more efficiently for living beings.

This is an Annutarayoga (Highest Yoga) Tantra initiation. Bodhisattva and tantric vows, as well as a daily mantra commitment, will be given according to tradition.

There was a series of teachings given to Lama Tsongkhapa from his direct communication with Manjushri, these teachings are called the Kadam Emanation Scripture. The initiation and its special instructions for practice are the very essence of those teachings that Je Tsongkhapa and Lama Umapa received from the Wisdom Buddha, Manjushri. It contains many secret instructions that were only handed down orally from Guru to disciple. Yanchen Drupai Dorje composed this sadhana from the oral instructions he received from Ngulchu Dharmabhadra. This is the most profound method for prolonging life, dispelling obstacles and increasing one’s merit that Manjushri himself had to offer.

About Geshe Dawa

Geshe Dawa has studied extensively in both Tibet and India since taking ordination at the age of nine. After leaving Tibet in 1959, Geshe-la, together with several hundred other monks, helped to establish a branch of Sera Monastery in south India. His academic accomplishments in Buddhist studies include the Acharya Degree from Varanasi University, which he completed in three years rather than the usual ten. He also holds a Lharampa Geshe Degree, the highest possible attainment in formal Buddhist philosophical studies, and a Tantric Geshe Degree.

Geshe-la has received many teachings and initiations from various Great Masters including his Holiness the Dalai Lama as well as his two tutors, Ling Rinpoche and Trijang Rinpoche. On the invitation of Lama Yeshe, Geshe Dawa moved to Melbourne to become the first resident Teacher at Tara House where he taught regularly for four years as well as twice yearly at Buddha House in Adelaide. Geshe-la then returned to India to teach at Sera Monastery. In 1991, having been requested by Lama Zopa Rinpoche many times, he took up the position of resident Teacher at Vajrayana Institute in Sydney where he taught for eight years.

Geshe Dawa is now semi-retired and lives in Bankstown. Geshe-la continues to give regular teachings and initiations to a devoted group of students.
