Games Plug-in for Trillian Pro

This page is for Trillian users who wish to play Checkers and Chess via my plug-in and Trillian Pro.

Instructions

Directions to play a game:

  1. Extract DLL to your Trillian plug-in dir (i.e. 'C:\Program Files\Trillian\Plugins')
  2. Add the plug-in using the Trillian preferences window
  3. Open a chat window with someone else who has Trillian Pro with the plug-in loaded
  4. Type !CHECKERS START or !CHESS START and press enter
  5. The other user will receive a systray notification to play - click the link on it
  6. The game will open
  7. Name of current players turn will be just above the Players board
  8. Click once to select / deselect piece
  9. Click on an empty space to make a valid move
  10. Click end turn to end your turn when it appears at the top left of the board
     

Checkers Default rules (standard checkers rules)

  • You are forced to jump a player whenever possible
  • You cannot jump your own pieces

Extra options for Checkers

(see below for information on how to use the options when starting a game)

  • ALLOWFRIENDLYJUMP - Allows players to jump their own pieces
  • NOFORCEJUMP - Players are not forced to jump their their opponents
  • CROWDED - 10x10 Units board, 4 rows of pieces
  • SPARSE - 10x10 Units board, 3 rows or pieces

NOTE: When playing ALLOWFRIENDLYJUMP while forcing opponent jumps there is a special rule. If at any time during a move your move results in you being able to take a players piece with another one of your pieces your turn will end automatically so you can take the piece next turn.

Chess Default Rules (professional chess rules)

  • Chess rules are as per professional rules.

Other Commands

  • !CHESS SOLO Starts a game of chess against yourself
  • !CHECKERS SOLO Starts a game of checkers against yourself (parameters allowed)
     

Using Options

To specify options, put them in '[' and ']' when starting the game, i.e.. To play a crowded game allowing friendly jump but forcing opponent jumps use: !CHECKERS START [ALLOWFRIENDLYJUMP CROWDED]

Order of options do not matter, last option overrides first i.e.. !CHECKERS START [CROWDED SPARSE] will result in a SPARSE game

Features

  • If a game message doesn't get through you can now resend by selecting 'Game - Resend Last Move' in the menus
  • Save and load games are now implemented a load request has to be confirmed!!

Skinning

Skinning of the boards is now possible... the default skin has been supplied, to use a skin, a directory called GamesPlugin should be added to your skins\skinname directory and all the INI and BMP files should be put in the GamesPlugin folder (included in this archive). Of course you do not require to install the skin to use the plug-in, built-in resources are used for the skin if no skin is found.

Skin Notes

Bitmaps must be all the same width and height for each game type or none of the bitmaps will be loaded

  • All colours must be supplied or none of the colours will be loaded
  • Both X and Y piece spacing coordinates must be supplied if they are to work
  • See the INI files included in downloadable skin archive for an example of a skin

Official Release Version 2.8 (NOW SUPPORTS TRILLIAN 2.0 PRO AND ABOVE, be sure to read the Readme.txt file. Bugs fixed when using with Trillian version 2.0 or below:
