The notes' reverse contain
images portraying the South African economy -- the chemical industry (R2
note), the mining industry, upon which South Africa's wealth is built (R5
note), the agricultural industry (R10 note), an image of van Riebeck's
ship with the South African Coat of Arms (R20 note) and images of South
Africa's native fauna (R50 note).The Coat of Arms bears the Latin inscription "Ex Unitate Vires" -- "Unity Creates Strength" ("Eendragt maakt magt" in Afrikaans).
