Theatre Bio

Gerard was drawn to theatre at a young age. From 1979 he began performing on the New Zealand stage in "The Wizard of Oz" & "Oliver", playing flute for "Jesus Christ Superstar" (1982) and gained his first major lead as Will Parker in "Oklahoma" (1987), going on with roles in "Show Boat", "West Side Story", & "Evita" (1990). Whilst at school he studied Performing Arts with Trinity College (London) where he gained an Associate Diploma. After a long break from the stage to build a career in broadcasting, he has appeared recently on the Central Coast in "The Craft" and "Straight and Narrow" at Peninsula Theatre, "Picasso at Lapin Agile" with GTC, "The Pirates of Penzance", as the MC in "Chicago", as Emile de Becque in "South Pacific", and "Les Misérables" with Gosford Musical Society.

Although born in New Zealand, I am constantly asked how to pronounce "Gerard", a French name. I have added an accent aigu to honour the correct French spelling, and avoid having to answer the question. Plus, I love the French accent. Hence Gérard.
