XSUIM is
a utility designed to support the use of Mac OS X Server in a managed
environment of computer clients and users.
It allows
you to:
- Take
a list of student or staff names from a text file and output them
in the xml form required by WorkGroup Manager for import.
XSUIM creates username, password, userid, group and home directory
information for each user. XSUIM uses a preset configuration and
dynamically collected data either from Oasis or Sentral server
on a periodic basis determined by you.
- Create
XWEB which is a list of indexes to each individual
server user's personal web site.
(See link to Xweb above)) XWEB now includes links to individual
blog sites hosted on your server.
XSUIM
was designed to meet the needs of NSW public
schools and certain
assumptions are made about how the data is organised on the server. XSUIM
can be very flexible if you understand how it works or it can be
largely automated if your situation is fairly standard.
XSUIM provides other functions:
If
used consistently it becomes a part of your network documentation and:
- assists
in maintaining a consistent approach to the update and inclusion
of new server users
- avoids
duplication (of users and id's)
- assists in server management (home directories for example)
- includes
new year rollover management
XSUIM is a Filemaker Pro application.
You need a copy of Filemaker Pro to operate it. The present version
of XSUIM was created in Filemaker Pro version 8 but will run on version
7 and 9
Note that the Oasis export creates a .dbf file which is no longer
supported in Filmaker Pro 10
