Mac OS X server web module publishes html placed in each user's
Sites folder. This is an automatic and potentially
very powerful process. The site can be accessed by anyone on the school's
intranet through a browser pointed at the location;
http://servername/~username
By encouraging users to create web material in their Sites folder
you have a very effective way of sharing information, displaying student
work or building e-portfolios. Publication is instant and can be highly
motivating for students.
It is also a useful way for staff to distribute
material for student use. Web based instruction, worksheets, links
to the Internet, photos and so on. Individual teachers don't need to
approach a server administrator to upload material to the intranet
for them.
Xweb is a table of links to user home folders. You place it somewhere
within your intranet and create a link to Xweb/index.html to display
the Xweb pages illustrated above.
Each time XSUIM is used to update users on the server Xweb is
created afresh.
XSUIM and Blogs
XSUIM now provides links to user blogs if configured on Mac X 10.4
and 10.5 servers. The links appear on the same page as the links to
users home pages in their own table.
The blog server on 10.4 provides a basic but functional text blog
while 10.5 server provides a well featured media capable blog.
