The Scope of Rescue Tasks

Motor Vehicle Accidents
Persons trapped in light or heavy motor vehicles or public passenger carrying vehicles. Collisions with trains, tankers overturning, motor cycles under vehicles.

Railway Incidents
Collisions between trains, derailments, persons trapped under trains and other accidents on the railways involving railway workers.

Industrial Incidents
Persons trapped in machinery, mincers, scaffolding, trenches, hoists, on roofs, cave-ins, or rescue from mines.

Domestic Incidents
Persons trapped in domestic appliances, holes, drains, trenches, in ceilings, under houses and other structures. Children trapped in toys, bicycles, trees, roofs, or with fingers trapped in plugholes and other areas around the home. Removal of metal bands and the like from extremities.

Cliff Incidents
Persons stranded on cliff faces, falling over cliffs, attempted suicides or abseilers or climbers in difficulties on cliffs.

Lifts/ Elevators
Persons trapped in lifts or escalators. Persons falling down lift wells.

Animal Incidents
Birds caught in trees, TV antennae, cats caught in wall cavities, trees, structures or traps. Dogs caught in drains, buildings or cliff ledges and savage dogs in houses. Reptiles in motor vehicles, houses, under buildings or in drains. Cattle or horses caught in bogs, creeks, swimming pools, septic tanks, canals.

Aircraft Incidents
Aircraft crashes at airports and elsewhere, alerts and other emergencies.

Searches
Persons lost or overdue in bushland. Persons falling from trains. Missing aircraft, vehicles. Children missing anywhere. Valuable property lost.

Agricultural Incidents
Persons trapped in or under machinery, grain silos or bins.

Natural Disasters
Floods, storms, strong winds, storm damage, landslides, earthquakes. Persons lost in bushfires.

Police Aid
Protection of evidence at crime scenes. Site security. Search for evidence. Traffic control.

Communications
Assisting the community and other emergency services with radio communications in times of emergency.

A TYPICAL YEAR'S INCIDENTS IN SEVERN SHIRE

1. Car rollover Kingsgate Road : one fatality.
2.     Overturned abandoned car : Glencoe.
3. Steer released from Sheep plunge dip : Furracabad.
4. Rider of quad bike which overturned assisted and placed in Ambulance with suspected spinal injuries : incident occurred on property at Furracabad.
5.     Rescued stud calf from below ground water tank on property at Furracabad.
6.     Recovered deceased person : Ben Lomond.
7.     Overturned 4 x 4 on Square Range Road.  Bush search for missing driver.
8.     Head on accident between semitrailer and empty petrol tanker semitrailer on Ben Lomond range.  Released on driver.  Traffic control on partially closed highway for 3 hours : raining.
9. Transfer load chilled beef from overturned fridge.  Truck provide lighting and traffic control New England Highway north of Yarraford.
10.    Triple fatal head on accident near Grahams Valley turnoff, release 2 survivors : body recovery : traffic control : cleanup.
11.    Extracted bogged horse from Park Creek.
12.    Recovered cat jammed under house.
