Some time ago a suggestion was put forward to hold a get-together to commemorate the 25th Anniversary since the last Scout was produced. The planned get-together was held at Alice Springs in the winter of 2005, with May being favored. We had been informed by the locals in Alice Springs that this is their tourist season and accommodation is not all that plentiful for the drop-in type tourist. The duration of the stay in Alice Springs was about two weeks and trips around the area were left to the individuals to organize for themselves. Traveling to and from Alice Springs was expected to take 1 week either way and some chose to travel in convoys. A number of different routes were planned to and from Alice Springs.Owners and ex-owners of International Scouts, Light trucks, 2 or 4 wheel drives were encouraged to participate in the event.
The Transport Historic Society extended an invitation for us to attend their displays to mark the significance of our reunion. They also provided a sausage sizzle at the end of the day. It was also decided to present to them a memento of our visit in the form of a collage on the “rise and fall” of the Scout.
It's all over for another 25 years – well, hopefully we will have many more gatherings before then.
