A chance roadside encounter between Scout owners saw the formation of the Club. From the roadside meeting an advertisement advising of a Scout owner's meeting was placed in a Sydney paper, which resulted in 12 Scouts getting together on a Sunday afternoon . The first monthly meeting was held in June 1988, which saw around another 15 members sign up. The International Scout Owner's Club is unique in that members all have a strong affinity with a line of vehicles that have long since ceased production. They all have a burning desire to keep 17+ year old vehicles in good mechanical order and to enjoy them in the manner for which they were designed.
Through getting together, members have been able to share knowledge and ideas relating to tracking down rare parts, or suitable substitute locally produced items. The Club has progressed to having some items made locally (eg. radiator hoses) available for sale to members. The Club enjoys the usual range of activities and weekend trips and produces a monthly newletter that would be of interest to all Scout buffs.
We have owners of many and varied Scouts, including a few privately imported trucks, a left hand drive 2 wheel drive '74 model and a few custom modified jobs. All from the beginning to the end of the era of the Scout.
