INTRODUCTION
TUFOIC was founded in 1965 and is a serious minded civilian organisation that attempts to investigate all UFO reports in a scientific, objective and unbiased manner, and make accurate and reliable information available on the UFO subject.
The Centre is a non-profit organisation.
The principal objectives of the centre are:
To collect and examine information on the UFO phenomena, especially within Tasmania.
To disseminate that which the Centre considers authentic, to fellow UFO organisations within Australia and overseas, to our members at meetings, and via the Australasian Ufologist magazine, and TUFOIC NewslettersAs a body, the Centre draws no conclusions from its investigations, other than the fact that an unexplained phenomenon exists and demands meticulous investigation and exhaustive research.
Reports that are considered authentic after thorough investigation by the Centre, are included in our Tasmanian UFO sightings computer database (TASCAT), and are made available to fellow researches and the public via our publications and the media where necessary.
Communication is maintained with fellow organisations throughout Australia and Overseas via Mail and The Internet and publications are exchanged with similar organisation in an attempt to gain a world-wide picture of the UFO phenomena.
Where do we work from?
TUFOIC is based in Hobart, Tasmania, with Investigators and Representatives in various regions around the state.
Meetings are held in Hobart on an irregular basis, these are informal and provide details of the latest Tasmanian sightings, Interstate and Overseas news.
Occasional guest speakers, video tapes and discussion evenings are also presented on UFO and related topics.Contact the centre for details, date and venue.
Membership of TUFOIC is open to all persons seriously interested in the UFO subject, and who support the aims of the organisation.
How do we learn about sightings?
The Centre is widely known to the Media, and authorities such as Police, Air Traffic Control, and other major institutions throughout the state, and through our responsible approach to the subject, state authorities generally refer UFO reports to the Centre for further investigation.
Many cases are learnt of second hand and a follow up is then made to contact the witness involved. Other reports are made directly to the Centre via our Telephone number, which is in the Hobart Phone Directory, or mailed directly to our Postal address.
The Centre has an annual explanation rate of about 90%,yet despite this, there remains a body of sightings, especially the so called Close Encounter events, that defy explanation.
It is these sightings that defy explanation that we define as Unidentified Flying Objects.
What is a UFO?
A UFO is a phenomenon whose appearance and/or behaviour cannot be ascribed to conventional, natural or man made causes, firstly by the original witness and then by those conducting a common sense investigation using the latest information and techniques available.
