NaGaDeMon: Final Day

Friday, November 30th, 2012

Behold, it is finished. Well, finished in a “release candidate” sense, for those of you in the biz who understand the terminology. Continual refinements, new cards, that stuff will continue to happen. But there’s enough here for you to play with. Now is probably a good time for a victory Milo. Oh wait, Australia has South Africa 6 down for 70-odd. Glorious!
UPDATE: I can now put this on the post

NaGaDeMon: Day 29

Thursday, November 29th, 2012

At this point, I believe I have officially won.

I have now made two copies using 200gsm card paper, the second using a guillotine acquired at OfficeWorks.

If you wish to acquire a personally hand cut copy, email me. Otherwise, I will work on putting up the print-and-play material online tomorrow, and you can wait until then if you’re that way inclined.

NaGaDeMon: Days 23-28

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012

Most of the progress has been working out how I can produce my game in an amateur but efficient manner.

It turns out that my printer can do 200gsm paper. This is pretty much the key part. By printing the stuff directly onto the paper, it makes it a lot easier since the next step is cutting it up. This can be efficiently done with the help of a guillotine. 200gsm paper can be bought at OfficeWorks, though what colours are available at any given time may be hit and miss. Specialty shops online have either smaller or incredibly large packs, making them less suitable bang-for-buck or way-too-much. I say this for those of you who may in the future be planning to print-and-play your own set. Of course, to do that, I’d have to put up the PDF’s, which I’ll do sometime soon, probably in the non-blog part of this site (yes, it still exists).

NaGaDeMon: Day 22

Thursday, November 22nd, 2012

I’ve been adding more cards to the mix, and also thinking about how I could produce this game efficiently. My game pretty much only requires the kinds of stuff normally associated with Cheapass Games games. Apparently, some printers are capable of compentently printing card stock. Given that I already have a means of turning my card content into printable sheets, I just need to find out how well either of my printers go at printing. Scissors, though, would probably tire me out after a while, so I’d also probably need a paper guillotine. I then require some sort of minimal packaging (probably suitably sized resealable sandwich bags), and you lot can provide your own means of counting score.

NaGaDeMon: Days 20-21

Wednesday, November 21st, 2012

Fairly good test yesterday. It was very funny. Refinements on the way, and news/current affairs as well as pop culture continue to be the sources of good content. I think when someone says “I’d paid for that”, you know you’re onto a winner.

NaGaDeMon: Days 16-19

Monday, November 19th, 2012

I’ve realised that I can use the base mechanic I’ve created here to make a variant form. I call it Theological Hobbyhorse. It’s the same game, only the questions are things Christians might ask, and you replace policies with theological positions.

I’ve also figured out a ‘weekend away group game’ variant. That one has a fixed panel and moderator, uses the crowd as the judge, and also includes bingo cards.

NaGaDeMon: Day 15

Thursday, November 15th, 2012

I have just finished cutting and pasting my first playtest set of cards. Invitations to people’s places to play this are quite welcome.

NaGaDeMon: Days 13-14

Wednesday, November 14th, 2012

I think I have enough card content to test with. I was thinking about the arduous task of writing it down, when I then figured it’d be less arduous to convert them into something I could print off, reducing it to the less arduous task of cutting and pasting. I’ve now managed to convert my card content into html files which I will shortly print off and proceed to cut and paste. Well, I might paste later, as I want to get some differently coloured system cards so it’s easier to organise everything.

The plan from here is to test this out soon. If all goes well, the plan is then to send it as a, um, well, advance Christmas/wedding/engagement/(let’s face it, who needs an excuse) present, shall we say, to people whose addresses I happen to have who also happen to like games or who may happen to like this game. It is fortunate that the rules for this game are neither hard nor long. If you would like to be on the list of people I send a present to, you may want to email me your address or update a certain google doc if you were in my year at college.

NaGaDeMon: Days 10-12

Monday, November 12th, 2012

Weekend busy – more cricket (winning is great), more church, some programming on the side, and a record amount of catalogs to deal with. Anyway, I’m grinding my way through these lists, and slowly putting the runs on the board. And then it’ll be my birthday …

NaGaDeMon: Day 9

Friday, November 9th, 2012

As promised, my progress. This will be a weekly-ish thing.

Cards: 42 questions, 55 policy positions, 44 random phrases

To-do:
- more of the above (random phrases highest priority. Probably have enough of the others to test with.)
- write the above onto actual cards
- be at a dinner party at which we will play this <- – I require your (the reader’s) help with this. Unfortunately, how many of you are still reading?
