Chapter 34 - Battle of the Bugs!
TopGear took in the clean, crisp fresh air and actually started whistling. It
just felt so damn good to be alive, so good to be in a tropical paradise, so
good to just be above ground. Pinser had a happy look on its face, and was
undoubtedly pleased that they were both above ground.
Being trapped in those tunnels so long had warped Gear's sense of time a little.
He knew he fell into the tunnels really early on day 1, and esitimated that he
had spent nearly 72 hours underground in the dank, dark, confined reaches of
those tunnels.
His mind wandered to what else was deep underground. Obviously, Fedora was using
this island to conduct experiments it didn't want to do elsewhere. That lab he
had seen earlier and that horrible mutant proved that fact. Gear also knew that
it'd be stupid to just have a single lab underground when the island has an
extensive tunnel system.
He squashed that thought quickly. His mind brought back the image of the
hideous, mutant montstrosity and he suddenly didn't want to know what else was
underground. The chances of anything good being stuck in those labs underground.
hell, Gear knew that wasn't even a chance. Nothing on this island was good, and
Gear knew that now.
He thought of Palidor and how shell shocked she was after the attempted rape by
Animorph. Gear had given her a hard time before about her infamous sex tape
circulating the market and the fact that she was portrayed as a drunken party
girl, and now he really regretted it.
She was a sweet woman underneath it all. She just made a few mistakes in her
life. Gear thought about how blank she looked after the attempted rape, and felt
his hatred rise for the dead Animorph. He smiled when mentally conjured up the
image of flies already swarming Animorph's dead, rotting body.
"That ****er's mouth is probably filled with fly crap." Gear said, grinning.
He felt hatred towards Andrea Blackheart, too. Even though he had no idea how,
somehow she and her Misdreavus made Palidor think he was Animorph. If Andrea
didn't play tricks with Palidor's mind like that, Palidor might've been able to
get away from that mutant. Gear thought about the way Andrea looked when he left
the lab, lying on the ground, a huge gaping wound in her stomach, and he felt
gratified. The mutant probably ate her.
Gear knew his anger was misdirected though. Animorph and Andrea wouldn't have
been able to get to him and Palidor had it not been for the bastard who set this
up. Gear felt like he had a purpose now. It wasn't looking for a means of
escape. It was killing the last contestants and meeting up with Mega. That's
what he knew he had to do.
He looked at Pinser, and smiled. "We're going to make that ****ing assclown pay,
ya' hear me?"
Pinser nodded. It too had grown attached to Palidor, and wanted revenge on Mega.
Pinser thought back to Kaboobi and how he heroically tried to save their lives,
only to get eaten by that mutant. Mega allowed the mutant to happen. Therefore
Mega was the one responsible.
Gear heard the rumble of thunder overhead, and looked up to the sky. The rain
had stopped nearly a half hour or so ago, and while the sky was cloudly, there
were no rain clouds in sight. The rumbling noise didn't stop, and it
increasingly grew louder and louder. Gear suddenly knew that it wasn't thunder,
and his gut instinct informed him of what to do.
"Hit the dirt!" Gear yelled to Pinser.
Gear dropped to the ground along with Pinser just as the Beedrill flew above
him, its stingers aimed at where Gear's head would've been had he not fallen to
the ground. The Beedrill soared up in the air and turned around and began flying
back towards them.
Gear scrambled to his feet to turn around and run, and was instantly greeted by
a punch to the face from Aeon Flux Capacitor. Gear fell backwards and glanced at
Pinser just as it dodged Beedrill's dive bomb attack. Aeon immediately leapt up
and grabbed a large nearby tree branch with his hands and pulled downward,
snapping it off the tree.
Gear quickly got to his feet just as Aeon slammed the tree branch down into his
shoulder. Gear felt a wave pain attack his back, which was still quite soar from
trying to escape from the underground tunnels. Gear fell back to the ground, and
Aeon struck Gear's back with smaller, thinner part of the tree branch.
Beedrill had stopped dive bombing Pinser and was now sending jab after jab of
its stingers aimed at it. Pinser leapt out of the way multiple times, just
barely avoiding death. Pinser jumped back a little late for one of Beedrill's
stings, and it felt the sharp point of the stinger graze its flesh. Beedrill
pulled back its arm, hoping to finish Pinser with one strong blow. Pinser
glanced behind him and saw a large tree, and immediately fell to the ground just
as Beedrill jabbed its stinger towards it.
Beedrill's stinger completely missed Pinser and it connected with the tree that
was behind Pinser with a loud thunk. Beedrill pulled back, but it realized with
a sick horror that its stinger was stuck inside the tree! Pinser stood up, and
Beedrill swung at it with its other stinger.
The lashes of the thinner parts of the treebranch against Gear's skin were loud
and cringe-inducing. The back of Gear's shirt was almost completely in shreds,
his back turning a light red because of the blood seeping out from his wounds.
Everytime Gear tried to get to his feet, Aeon brought the tree branch down
again. Gear felt the bright sting of pain on his back, and quickly rolled
towards the direction of Aeon.
Gear rolled himself into Aeon's legs, and Aeon was taken by surprise. Aeon
fell on top of Gear, but Gear quickly rolled out from under him. Gear grabbed
the tree branch away from Aeon and pushed it up against Aeon's throat.
Beedrill frantically waved its free stinger at Pinser, still trying to pull its
other one out from the tree it was in. Pinser stayed a safe distance from
Beedrill's erratic waving. Pinser slowly inched towards Beedrill's back, the one
spot that was virtually unguarded. Pinser knew what it was going to do, but it
had to wait for the right time.
Aeon gasped for air and shot his hands up towards Gear's face. Aeon grabbed both
of Gear's ears, and pulled them down towards his neck. Gear's head connected
with the tree branch on Aeon's neck with a thunk, and Aeon quickly pushed Gear
off of him.
Aeon stood up, coughing and gasping for air. Gear grabbed a nearby tree to
steady himself, and then he pulled himself up. The world in front of him was
spinning a little, and he shook his head to try and make it stop. He pressed his
palm against his forehead and pulled it back and saw a decent amount of blood on
it. He glared at Aeon, who was still coughing.
"You're a real douche bag, you know that?" Gear said.
Pinser was finally behind Beedrill, the one spot where it couldn't protect
itself. Beedrill began pulling much more urgently now, and was relieved to see
that the stinger was slowly coming out of the tree. It meant nothing, though,
because Pinser leapt up onto its back and dug its sharp claws into its eyes.
Beedrill screeched in horrible pain, Blood began pouring out of its large, red
eyes and onto the ground. Finally, its stinger came out of the trunk and Pinser
leapt off of its back. Beedrill spun around, still screeching from the pain, and
began erratically swinging and jabbing its stingers into the air. More blood
poured from Beedrill's eyes, coating its belly in a crimson red glaze.
Aeon had instinctively turned around to see what was going on. Gear tackeled
Aeon to the ground and clamped his hands around the back of Aeon's neck and
squeezed, applying pressure to the only pressure points he knew of. Aeon
immediately felt light headed, and he yelled out. Aeon swung his arms towards
Gear and tried pulling Gear's hands off his neck, but he was feeling too light
headed to muster enough strength to do so.
Gear looked towards Pinser, who was watching Beedrill swing its arms around.
"Come here! Pinser, now! Make noise, too!"
Pinser ran towards his master, yelling out as it did so. Pinser knew what Gear
was trying to do, and it couldn't help but feel estactic when Beedrill spun
around and began flying towards it.
Gear shifted his weight to Aeon's upper back, and took a hand off of his neck to
shove his face against the ground. Aeon inhaled bits and pieces of dirt and
leaves, and began coughing. Gear looked up at Pinser, who was being chased by
the blind Beedrill, and he hoped that this would work.
"Hey, ya' ****ing bee," cried out Gear. "Come and get me!"
Gear lowered himself, a hand still clamped on Aeon's neck and another hand still
shoving Aeon's face to the ground. Gear was lying on Aeon's back, fully aware of
how odd this might've looked to a casual observer. Pinser ran past Gear and
immediately became silent, and Gear smiled.
"Right here, you mother ****er!" yelled Gear.
Beedrill flew towards Gear, the stingers on its arms aimed directly at him. Gear
took a deep breath, and rolled off of Aeon at the last possible second.
Beedrill's stingers stabbed Aeon in the back, creating giant wounds that almost
exploded with blood. Beedrill continued stabbing Aeon's body, fully thinking it
was killing Gear.
Gear slowly got to his feet, trying not to make a noise. He looked at Pinser and
put a finger to his lips and Pinser nodded. Gear pointed westward, and carefully
began walking away from Beedrill and Aeon's body, trying not to make a noise.
Pinser followed, and the only noise the two heard were the wet stabs of
Beedrill's stingers in Aeon's dead body.
