The Cope Electrical Illawarra surf titles were held on Sunday in near perfect conditions at Sandon Point. 65 of the regions best surfers fought it out in 4ft offshore conditions to try to gain qualification to the NSW State titles to be held at Kiama from 30^thJune till the 4th July. The day saw some exciting progressive surfing and some real standout performances. Ben Starr  (pictured here) took out the Mens Open Final with an Impressive  No grab Air Reverse and a series of critical turns to seal victory in front of Dan Marczuk, Shayne Markovich and Daniel Savill.

Ben also won the “VB Slab of a Wave” award for completing the move in a critical section of the wave.

“The standard of surfing all day was unbelievable, through all of the divisions. Ian Spenser, Craig Morris, Jake Spooner, Andrew Jonson, Colin Carr and Ben Starr all surfed at some of the highest level of surfing we have ever had at an Illawarra titles”  said Paul Charlton from surfing Illawarra.  Our team looks really strong and I am sure we will get a few guys through to the Australian titles later in the year.

The conditions stayed clean for the full 8.5 hrs of competition and the judges had their work cut out for them with close heats and impressive top to bottom surfing through the whole day.
