Katja Foundation

The plight of Kathmandu's street children eventually came to the attention of a group of Hong Kong school teachers and their pupils on their annual treks to Nepal. Over a number of years, what began as spontaneous demonstrations of support for a lucky few, turned into a humanitarian project, an endeavour by a fortunate group on behalf of their Third World peers.

The project grew and horizons expanded.

A plea for support struck a chord with a Hong Kong businessman and the funds were raised to buy some land and build a 'home', a quality refuge and sanctuary for 50 children.

The project became a properly constituted legal entity, registered in Hong Kong in 1998, and was called 'The Katja Foundation' after one of the main donor's children.

The Aims and Principles of the Foundation are:
-to provide help and succour to the abandoned and neglected children of Nepal
-to provide a home and give a sound, vocational education to a cross-section of the child
community, both girls and boys equally
-to develop self-reliant, responsible adults who can contribute to Nepal's future
-to be effective and efficient, keep administration and red-tape to a minimum, make every
donation count.

The Katja Foundation is small-scale and personal. Contact is close. Donors and sponsors can judge that
'Their Future is in Our Trust.'
