20 Aug 2004 KOoEE donates Funds to the Aboriginal Children's Advancement Society
Door takings from the Afternoon Tea with Senator Aden Ridgeway and Uncle Chicka Address will be donated to the Aboriginal Children's Advancement Society (http://www.kirinari-acas.com.au/index.html).
The Aboriginal Children's Advancement Society was formed to provide education and employment opportunities for young Aboriginals through provision of hostels. First and foremost is the aim to improve the standard of education of Aboriginal children and the extension of opportunities to those in need. Assistance is also given to Aboriginal children and youth who show a special talent.
Their work is consistent with KOoEE‘s mission and marries nicely with Uncle Chicka’s Personal Philosophy.

29 June 2004 KOoEE to feed Three School Children for a Year
Students and staff are thanked for coming along to our end of semester BBQ and making sufficient contributions such that KOoEE has donated enough money to The United Nations World Feeding Programme's School Feeding Project to support three (3) students for a year.
Hopefully, the irony of eating and drinking to support this worthy cause was not lost on members. Some 300 million poor children in the world today either do not attend school or do not receive a meal during the school day. Most of these children are female. Every day, 24,000 people die of hunger or hunger-related causes. Seventy-five percent of them are children in poor countries.
Your donation will provide nutritious food at school for these students and hopefully prove a simple but effective way to improve their literacy rates and help these poor children break out of the poverty cycle.
We thank you for your support and encourage you to learn more about the UN’s World Feeding Programme at www.wfp.org.

The Board was advised today by Gary Molloy that in recognition of his significant commitment to KOoEE over the past three months, Stuart Smith would be elevated to the position of Co-Chair. He said “We have come a long way in a very short period of time. Our achievements would not have been possible, were it not for the contribution of many, but Stuart has been a standout, he has ensured that that we have delivered on the detail associated with our promise. 18 May 2004 KOoEE Chair to Stand for UTS Council
Gary Molloy (KOoEE Chair) has announced his intention to stand in the forthcoming UTS Council elections. Gary will stand based on the contribution that he can make representing the post-graduate population given his prior management experience and advocating a social platform consistent with KOoEE’s vision of gender and race equality with social justice for all.
Nomination Speech Reads: “Effective representation requires passion, commitment and organisational skills. Postgrads are a diverse group with issues ranging from access to resources, supervision/teaching, fees, IP, family/university life balance and the like – a complex mix.
Personally, I have a passion for learning and the institutions that not only facilitate this, but ideally nurture it. Passion alone, is not enough – your representative needs drive. Since being at UTS, I have lead the establishment of a new UTS Union affiliated student organisation that has already arranged that an influential ex-government minister address us on multi-culturalism - there is more to follow.
The key to effective representation; however, is having the organisational skills to be confident that when issues go before the UTS Council our interests have not only been put, but also understood and accepted as legitimate. I am capable of this, would like to serve you and ask for your vote”.

2 April 2004 KOMAS holds Launch BBQ Donating Profits to the Salvo’s
Today KOMAS held a launch BBQ on the UTS Kuring-gai Campus. The event was well attended by students in the Post Graduate Diploma in Education, many taking the opportunity to voice their concerns in relation to KOMAS’ smorgasbord of beliefs.
KOMAS, the Kuring-gai Organisation Organisation of Men Against Sexism, is a student organisation devoted to turning ideals on equality into reality. We believe in gender and race equality and social justice for everyone through our principles of pro-feminism, gay-affirmation, anti-racism and enhancing people’s lives.
As future teachers we recognised the positive impact such positive views will have on the adults of tomorrow. KOMAS was formed to consolidate those visions into action, on campus and beyond. We are located on the Kuring-gai Campus of the UTS.
The entire function profit ($55.00) was donated to The Salvation Army. |
