History: I always carry a pencil and sketch book with me,
so last summer when my car blew a tyre I kept myself occupied drawing
this beautiful old dying River Red Gum while waiting for the service van to
arrive. The past years in Australia have been one of the worst
droughts in over 100 years, and many trees are suffering. I wanted to record
this old beauty before she passed on -
she was valiantly trying to sprout new branches, and last I checked she is
still hanging in there!
'Hope' was a selected entrant at the Mortimer prize in Dubbo, NSW and Highly
Commended at the Bright Autumn Art Show 2011.
