Title: Spoon collection
Medium: Graphite Pencil
Status: For Sale- POA
History:This is a completed study based on the theme of ‘Reflections’ that I had set
for my drawing class group in 2018. The theme could be interpreted in a variety
of ways, the only restriction was in medium – the work was required to be pencil on paper.
I love to draw along with my students and this is the result of my ‘reflection’.
This collection of spoons reflects on people and places I have known over the years.
It includes a teaspoon once owned by my Great Aunt Tante Rosa,
a little art deco mustard spoon given to me years ago by a dear friend who is now gone,
my ‘baby spoon’ from William Page cutlery, circa 1890,
an ‘apostle’ spoon surreptitiously thieved years ago,
an 1923 English R. C. Co ‘Chatham’ plate spoon my mother gave to me from
her cutlery drawer and a variety of Op Shop finds. As I drew each spoon,
I reflected on the person or place from which I acquired it and their place in my life.
None of these spoons are of any great monetary value but are my treasured memories.
