The following references were most helpful to me:

• CE bus DeMystified -  The ANSI/EIA 600 User Guide - by Greyson Evans, Published by McGraw Hill, ISBN 0-07-137006-4.  This is a good book, well worth a read if your interested in home automation.  The only criticism is that I want more detail.
• The Intellon Web site.  Check out the reference design on the SSC 485.  Im going to play with that first.
• Australian Govt Paper on power line communications.  I sent an email to these guys but they didn't reply :-(
• Universal Powerline Bus - Powerline Control Systems California - The guys who wrote these specifications did an excellent job.
• Elektor article on home automation July / August 2006 - using a gameboy as a controller - top article gave me good Ideas.
• ACMA paper on EMI EMC.  Official guide to allowable limits for EMI in Australia.  As usual you have to buy the standard !! why don't people put them on the web?
• Power Line communications paper by Carlo Kopp, it's enought to make you give up :-) This site is really interesting well worth a surf!
