Hi, welcome to the MITG forum.

Looking at the circuit diagram for "up to 1964" in my workshop manual, it looks like the headlight switch should have 8 terminals marked 1 to 8.

T1 - 2 red wires
T4 - brown with blue trace
T7 - purple
T8 - blue

If your wires are different colours then let me know and I'll try and work out the right diagram or let you know where each wire should go.

Also tricky if someone has rewired stuff using different colours or a wiring harness from a different model of Mini.

Be really careful when you try it out because there are NO FUSES on the standard Mini loom for the headlight or ignition circuit and the headlight circuit is live all the time, Just switch it on very briefly and get someone to observe if it's working. Be ready to disconnect the battery quickly if you have a problem, otherwise you may burn out or melt your wiring.

See this is where it gets tricky because they do not look like the original wires and I'm not even sure that is the original switch. What's the other switch? Wipers?

While waiting for Tim’s reply I would try to work out which of those wires is the power supply. At least one of those wires normally should be 12v all the time even with the ign off ....unless someone has changed the way the car is wired. Are there any relays under the dash or bonnet?

It would also help if you were able to trace where each of your wires goes from the switch, then you’ll be able to compare to what Tim has and the wiring diagram.

What colors are the wires for the switch? I can see blue....
