Hi All,

I've been meaning to post this up for a while. My daughter Ellen completed her HSC last year and for her Textiles and Design subject major work she constructed a piece of "Fabric Art" in the shape of a Mini and I'm super proud of how well she's done.

The work displays numerous sewing techniques and fabrics and a variety of Mini associated themes including Paul Smiths Iconic pattern, the Union Jack, London skyline, rear venetian blinds and the famous Monte Carlo winners "EJB" number plates, ...which incidentally are the same as her initials.

The car features an opening boot complete with hand woven picnic blanket, the sump, subframes and exhaust are even sewn into the underside. In her design portfolio she explained how the Mini is a much loved and iconic design and that her inspiration was the family connections with the Mini (myself being a Mini owner and her Grandfather having worked at BMC in Australia)

As well as achieving a very high mark for the Subject in the HSC the Mini was selected as a winner of an award given each year to a number of HSC students by an association of Technology Educators. The Car is currently on display at the Stitches and Craft Show at Rose Hill Racecourse Exhibition Centre in Sydney.

Enjoy :D

Hello Ellen and Phill,
That's a genuinely unique concept that required real skill to execute. I have tried fitting carpets to minis, so I can see the effort and innovation needed to create your project. It's very well done - and I hope it translates into a career for the future.
