Michael was the only son of Eric
George and Mabel (Tim) Ina Pitts, born in England on 29th October 1932
He grew up in England, enduring WWII, and migrating to Australia with
his parents then studied Physics at Sydney University.
He then worked for Goodyear in Sydney where he met and married Jocelyn
(Ifield) in 1959. They settled in
Craig avenue at Baulkham Hills.
Around 1965,
after the birth of their first 2 children, John and Geoffrey, Mike took
on a laboratory job (at the now closed)
Bradmill Textiles factory in Rutherford. They
moved to
Edward street, Tenambit and had 2 more children Alison
and Cara. A further house move around 1974 to
Hiland Crescent East
Maitland was the last residence for Michael.
Michael was very involved with the "Standards Association" and did lots
of work for them writing standards for the textile industry. Michael
was also involved in several groups outside work, doing charity work
with the East Maitland Lions Club, teaching at the local TAFE, and
teaching at the Maitland Radio Club where he also was President for
several years.
Mike is also remembered for his love and patience with his children and
fondness for dogs (shared by his father) . He also had the ability to
tackle almost any home handyman job put in front of him.
Michael died in April 1997 after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma
(cancer) and his remains are at Lake Macquarie Memorial Park, Ryhope.
