The 20th Century paradigm was dominated by economics. Even our political and social philosophies were based on money and our relationship to it. With the collapse of the Berlin Wall in the closing decade of the millenium, many pundits were quick to claim that at last capitalism had won. The ironic truth of the matter is that while communism undoubtedly failed to supply a workable and humane political system, capitalism hasn't really done much better.

Greed and globalisation will probably keep the ball rolling for another decade or two, but sooner or later humans are gonna realise that everybody has the right to a full belly and a warm bed at night. When that day arrives, the only political model that makes any sense will be one that puts social and environmental policies before economic ones.
