MODEL RAILWAY ENTHUSIASTS

Col & Von & Bellbird

G’day and welcome to our web Site,

We would like to share with you some of the passions and pursuits in our lives. First and most importantly we are both committed Christians with a desire to know God and to live lives that honor Him. We live in the Southern Highlands of NSW, Australia, have two children and four grandchildren. Our lives are mostly very busy and we try to balance out time between family, time for God and our hobbies. Vonny is interested in Folk Art and has painted quite a number of items to decorate our home. Gardening is also one of our ways we relax where we have created our little bit of tranquility and a place to take time out. Col is also a Presenter at the local Community Radio Station, Highland FM 107.1.

His love for trains takes up a lot of his time. He is a keen modeler, particularly in “N” Scale and has built a number of layouts. The first layout was “WILLOW CREEK” which was exhibited at many local Model Railway Exhibitions and has now been sold.

With the experience gained and encouragement from fellow modellers he built his next layout, “BEYOND 2000” which was first exhibited in 1999 and has since won six awards. November 2001 saw our next layout, “SNOWY RIVER CANYON” at it’s first showing, and has been exhibited a number of times since     winning an award at Thornleigh in 2002. Early in 2003 the urge to create resulted in the decision to  re-birth BEYOND 2000 and so CITY LIGHTS was born. Recycling an old layout was challenging as we tried to portray Sydney by night. We majored on various lighting effects and experimented with different products to produce what we feel is an exciting effect. Following on from this a major reconstruction took place and “CITY LIGHTS” evolved into “SYDNEY SUBURBAN. This Mark 2 version was exhibited at the Sydney AMRA Exhibition the next year and following that Col went back to the drawing board with plans for more upgrading and extending the layout. It is still a work in progress and should be completed in 2015.

Our next project was the building of ‘BELLBIRD’, a logging scene somewhere in NSW. At it’s first showing at the AMRA Hurstville Exhibition 2006 BELLBIRD was awarded the Best Australian Scenery Trophy. The layout was also awarded the ‘Excellence in Modelling” trophy at the Malkara Canberra exhibition 2007. Our newest layout is ‘COLCAIRN’. Loosely modelled  on the town of Culcairn it has double mailnine and extensive yards.

Durig 2014 Colcairn went to the scrap yard and a new layout was built, modelled on “WILLLOW TREE” situated on the Main Northern line towards Murrundi.

Please check out the LAYOUT pages for a more detailed description of our layouts. Col is a member of the New South Wales N Scale Group and was a founding member of Georges River Model Railway Club serving as President for many years.

We have also included a number of links to some of our favorite Web Sites that you might find interesting. For technical and detailed descriptions of how we created realistic scenery using the “Soft Rock“ method and other scenery techniques go to the Modelling Tips pages. If you have enjoyed our Web Site, have any comments or would like information on any of our modeling techniques please  sign the Guest Book or feel free to Email us. Thank you for taking the time to have a look,
