2002 being the “Year of the Outback” we decided to dedicate a layout to one of Australia’s most famous poets, Banjo Patterson who wrote “The Man from Snowy River”.
Snowy River Canyon is an "N" scale modular layout measuring 2.4 m X 600 mm. It depicts a small Australian community somewhere in the High Country of the Snowy River area of NSW.
The layout features a small country town on the mainline, a branch line that serves the saw-mill and a small coal mine. Peek inside the local church as a couple ‘tie the knot’. Check out the action at the Bank where Ned Kelly and Gang stage a daring Bank holdup while “Clancy of the Overflow” is droving the cattle to the yards to be transported to the saleyards in the ‘Big Smoke‘. Listen to the Country Music singers entertain the locals at the pub.High up in the mountain the local Bush Fire brigade struggles to contain a scrub fire outbreak while the “Man from Snowy River” can be seen plunging down the mountainside in pursuit of the wild horses while Skiers enjoy the snow slopes of Mount Kosciuszko.
Trains consist of XPT’s, Deisel hauled Passenger & general Freight The layout is decorated with Rabbit Traps, Cow Bell, Fencing Wire etc to give it that Country Feeling.
