One of my favourite photos, although it brings back a bit of a 'memory'.
That's me. On my way to a hair raising experience. Ducking my head
under the onslaught of the water, my hair (fortunately short), got caught up
in the abseiling device. The rope was too heavy (wet) for me to take
the weight off, I had no knife on me. (bad move), and I thought I might be
going to die up there, stuck under a waterfall. (A previous publicised
canyoning death jumped into my mind, of course.). Marc and Mick were
already at the bottom. I'm screaming out to them, and at first they thought
I was just whooping it up. Pretty hard giving advice over the roar of the waterfall. They finally got through to me that there was a ledge a bit further down. Somehow I got down to it, where I was able to stand up, and pull my hair out. We wore hats on big abeils from then on. |
