Grand Canyon, January 2005

We did this canyon with Cait, but with Grandma, Bill, Alison and Zoe doing the 'tourist track' walk with us - from Neates Glen  to Evans Lookout.   Half way along the walk, the nearby creek drops into this classic canyon, and then rejoins the track a bit further down.

Lunch before the canyon..  It had all changed a bit since Marc and I last did it, many moons ago. Some of it was from the bush regeneration after the fires 2 years previously. And much less water in the creek... and generally it had the more 'used'/urbanised feel to it.  Grandma and Bill were nonetheless impressed with the scenery, as the track descended into rainforest.

*[Expecting Grandma and Bill may have taken some decent photos along here.. so will include them when and if I get my hands on them]

First _real_ abseil... to get somewhere for a reason.  And that was down in _there_.

((Mum belaying: "Just hand on there a minute Cait while I take a photo!!"...  never mind the fact that one's first 'freefall' abseil is just a tad daunting.. I mean.. when you suddenly run out of rock wall, where do you put your feet? )

Look, still smiling!

Just the one abseil.. change into wetsuit time.  This time she decided to add thermal longs.

Forever the 'fashionista'.. Mum has decided not to prise herself into the wetsuit this time, and is sporting the thermals look (with those very flattering shorts to protect the bum!)  Only one swim in this canyon.. and a couple of other bits to get wet in if you couldn't be bothered trying to straddle around slippery rocks. I mean, what's the point when you're going to get wet just a bit further down?!!

It's something about the light that sets canyons apart from just your average bushwalk....

Back with the gang.. and part way back up to to the top... where you are treated to some
 pretty decent views.

[Hopefully more photos to come of the walking bits.. as opposed to the canyoning bits!]
