Pauleen West joined the Parish Ministry group as Pastoral Care Co-ordinator in 2008. Born in Melbourne Victoria, Pauleen began attending the Parish 25 years ago. Today she lives in Freemans Reach and enjoys the Hawkesbury's rich history, community values and people who are genuinely concerned for one another. Pauleen enjoys being a part of the Parish community and the blessing of being joined by 20 volunteers in the area of Pastoral Care. “To be a witness to people’s generosity towards another gives me great comfort.”
Prior to her volunteer work here with the Parish Pauleen has accumulated experience in nursing, teaching and counseling making her a natural communicator. Her motto is “It is the Lord.” We asked her for her favourite recent book “Tuesdays with Morrie” and favourite meal to cook “Baked dinner”. We welcome Pauleen to the Parish Council and look forward to opportunities to learn from her intrinsic desire to be prayerful in all she does.
Lydia Wills is making her mark on the Hawkesbury since arriving in the Parish from England in Dec 2009. Born in Salisbury, England the move to North Richmond has her discovering amazing new friends, enjoying the space and the beautiful calls of the bellbirds. Lydia enjoys being involved in the music for the Youth led Mass and feels it is a great way to make friends and share her 2 loves—God and music. Her motto “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened unto you’ Matthew 7:7, may well be the power behind her increasing skills and life experience. Lydia studied archaeology, worked full time in Catholic youth Ministry for a couple of years and continued for 7 years on a voluntary basis. She now works as a youth worker. “I’ve developed a knack of conveying life’s journey of faith in a simple and honest way. I can communicate, organize, bring life to my projects and see things through!” Lydia’s favourite book—Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers “It’s simply amazing.” Favourite meal to cook “Prawn stir-fry in a ginger, chilli and coriander sauce.”
Jackie Wall, and her husband Barry, have been attending Mass at St Gregory’s since their move from Mona Vale in 2001. Today Jackie lives in Bilpin. “ I enjoy the strong community of St Gregory’s. Parishioners come from a very wide area and I am glad to be able to participate in activity there and join with all who have a common bond in worshipping at St Gregory’s”. Born in Neutral Bay Jackie lived in North Manly until she married and relocated to Mona Vale. There she & Barry ran a law practice for over 30 years. Jackie graduated in 1979 with a theology degree, “I was the first woman at Manly to get a B.Th.” She has served on the Parish Council, Liturgy Committee & Education Committee at Terry Hills, helped set up their RCIA programme & was a Catechist for many years. Jackie lectured in Scripture for the Catechist courses and was a part of conducting inservice days for Catechists on the north shore. Jackie ran workshops on Inclusive Language in the Liturgy and is a member of WATAC. Her motto; ‘He must increase and I must decrease’, John the Baptist. Favourite book “In the Heart of the Temple” by Joan Chittister and favourite meal to cook “Coq au vin (organic of course).”
Joanne Muscat was born in Blacktown and raised on her parents pig farm (which she also helped run) at Marsden Park. Today she still enjoys the rural life. Having married into the turf farming industry, Joanne works from home over-looking the farms at Agnes Banks. She volunteers at St. Monica’s along with other parents. Favourite meal to cook: “ I love to cook homemade pizza for my family and friends or sit around a camp fire with a chicken in the pot. “ Every day I thank God for all the things I have, especially my children as “I am blessed” with a wonderful family and a very supportive, caring husband. Quote: Be thankful for the things we have got and not what we haven’t got.
Paul Mech lives in Bligh Park and has been a part of the Parish since 2008. He enjoys the fellowship of the close knit Parish community and the semi-rural landscape of the area. Paul works in the city as a Credit Analyst and finds it a relief to get back into his home district each day with it’s “healthy mix of urban and rural”. If you don’t know the face, you may know the voice - Paul is a local radio personality for Hawkesbury Radio. He has also been a board member for the station for 3 years, in addition to his political experience. Paul’s choice for ‘favourite book recently enjoyed’ —Tony Abbott’s 'Battle lines’ and his favourite food is curry.
Ann Leddy has lived in Kurrajong for 4 years and appreciates the peace and friendliness of the village and parish community. Ann enjoys involvement in Religious Education classes at the local village school and reading at Mass at St. Gregory's. She is a member of the Ecumenical Group and on the committee organising the annual School and Church Fete. Ann has a professional background as a teacher and School Principal and gained immeasurable experience living within different communities of the world like the UK, Egypt, Hong Kong and Spain. She is now enjoying learning about our wonderful country, travelling, reading and becoming proficient in cooking Aussie food - family favourites being Lamb Shanks and snags on the barbie. Her favourite book “I read a great deal but love to revisit the Classics with Jane Eyre being my favourite.” Motto she lives by; "Life is a splendid gift - there is nothing small about it"- Florence Nightingale.
