Spring is here!

I am a winter girl as opposed to a summer one. I would rather be cold than hot because you can always put more clothes on but you can only take so many off. That said, in truth I would like to be neither hot nor cold, I like being just right. I noticed last week that it is no longer dark when I get up at 6.15 and I like that very much. We don't need the heater on at all times and I like that too. My favourite indicator of Spring's arrival however, is small, pink and floaty. I wish they lasted much longer. They remind me of Japan, ahhh Sakura....

Last night at dinner Bethany cried out that her finger hurt. This happens regularly as things that go into her mouth tend to get bitten. I have learnt that sympathy is required in this situation so I asked which finger was hurt. Then I had to ask her if I could take a photo of her showing me which finger and she really appreciated the fuss I was making, though she didn't consider it a laughing matter.

Congratulations Jossie!

Since my last post.....

Toby lost the second of the two wobbly teeth you can see in this photo taken last week. At Bamma's wake everyone was encouraging Toby to pull the wobbliest tooth out. It was driving me mad I wanted to pull it out so much! Tim even offered him twenty dollars but he wouldn't let anyone touch it! It fell out on the way home to Wagga and the second one fell out yesterday.

It rained! It wasn't exactly drought breaking rain but it was very loud at times. It didn't keep Andrew and Toby from playing Pitch and Putt. I wish I could have fit the whole rainbow in the picture, it was spectacular.

The first of Toby's Little Big Day Out photos was in the paper.

I was in the paper too.

And..... Jossie came first in her piano eisteddfod! She and her friend Elizabeth won the duet section and she got a highly commended for her solo. She was so thrilled, as was I.

Also, Toby watched the beginning of his first Old Firm game (hence the inclusion of the photo above). Sadly, it was on so late that Toby couldn't watch much but that may have been for the best as Celtic lost and he does get so involved.

Book Week and the mini-mayor

I dread Book Week. You would probably imagine that, as a librarian, I would think it a wonderful thing, but I don't. The sad fact is that I am not creative and I can't make, or even think up, good costumes to wear to the parade. Toby owns a superman costume and was perfectly happy to wear it but Andrew, quite rightly, considers that a bit of a cop out. I tried to come up with a better option, but in the end I consoled myself with the fact that we paid for the outfit so it is good for him to get use out of it and Superman did at least start off as a book, if only a comic book, or graphic novel as we call them now. Surely that is better than all the Pixar characters you see and especially the Bratz doll a little girl went as a few years ago (that was disturbing on many levels - she was having a wardrobe malfunction!).

Jossie went as Susan Pevensie from the Chronicles of Narnia. I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to my favourite books but after searching all over town for a toy bow and arrow, I had to let it go. I did manage to find a shield with a lion on it.

Bethany wasn't the only little sister to join in.

This is one of the teachers being Dorothy. Toto is her little boy - too gorgeous!

A Book Week parade should be enough dressing-up fun for one day but we took it one further. Toby played a mini mayor in a photo shoot that will promote council's Little Big Day Out. He was a bit reluctant when I first raised the possibility with him, but he got right into it.

We went to five different locations to take photos.

Bethany made friends with DA Dog. The DA stands for Daily Advertiser and there is a nice young woman in the suit, in case you were wondering.

It was definitely a man inside Josie the cow!

Goodbyes

I've been away for a while, sorry. Last week my beloved grandfather, Bamma, died. Like my brother, Tim, I have struggled with what, if anything, to put on the blog about it. He was a wonderful grandfather and I was very lucky to have him for 36 years. He was a quiet man but everything he said was worth listening to, I used to think he knew everything. He loved to make things out of silver and I have spoons and jewellery that he made. He also made (made isn't the right word but I don't know what is) a new camellia and named it Amy. I'm so glad that my children knew him. This is my favourite photo of him. He, Joss and Toby were so excited to go for a ride on his scooter. Goodbye Bamma, we love you.

While funerals are incredibly sad events it is wonderful to spend time with the family. The day before the funeral we had lunch together and went for a walk on the beach. Poor old Jossie, she loves the beach so much that she has to get wet even when it is cold. The trials of being a country girl, far from the coast.

Cranky Fairy

Yes, I should be in bed. On the third Monday of the month I spend the evening at the Wagga Wagga & District Historical Society board meeting and then the general meeting. Having been at work, done the shopping and fed the children beforehand, I rarely want to go to bed when I come home. This evening I chatted to Dad on the phone, watched some Olympics, played scrabble on facebook and did half an hour on the wiifit. Now I'm not tired anymore so I have decided to share this video with you.

While I was getting dinner ready Toby and Bethany were at the table doing homework and 'homework'. Bethany was amusing me so I took this video.

Now I really should go to bed.
