Sesquicentenary events

THIS page will list the events to be held to celebrate the Tomerong Public School Sesquicentenary. Events so far include;


Saturday 29 September 2012 - 9 am to 3:30 pm

· Sesquicentenary Competition Woodchop– The village is famous for its axemen and no celebration would be complete without the smell of freshly chopped Eucalypt, the glint of shining axes, the arc of flying woodchips and the echo of sharp steel on hard timber. Handicap events include– underhand, standing block, tree felling, double handed sawing, butcher’s block, novice event, veterans event and NSW versus Tasmania Veterans team race (approx. 9:30 start)

· Displays

· Tomerong Public School Photographic Display

· This display includes over 350 static photographs comprised of class and staff photos and the changing face of our school from 1890. Rolling slideshows also provide a photographic history of   the School from P&C Fundraisers, Sporting Events, Bush Festivals, Country Fairs and all those events that record a vibrant and energetic School community.

· Bullock Team

· In the 1940s Tomerong had six sawmills serviced by up to 10 bullock teams. Local Ron McKinnon is a third generation Bullocky and one of the few owner, trainer and drivers of a commercial team left in the state. Watch Ron put his impressive bullocks (some weighing up to 1200Kg) through their paces and relive how Tomerong echoed to the bullockies call and the crack of the whip. · Rural Fire Service Display

· Tomerong Local History Photographic Display

· This display includes over 400 photographs, maps and images in a static pictorial of how the village evolved including farming, sawmilling, the Clyde Shire, local business and families, and how they entertained themselves.

· The Wool Road Spinners and Weavers

· Snake Display

· Sesquicentenary Fete

· Baking Competition (see home page for entry information)

· Nail Driving Competition

· Lolly Stall/Guessing Competition

· Lucky Dip

· Face Painting

· Tin Can Throw

· Hoopla

· Hole in One

· White Elephant/Book Stall

· Kids amusement rides– (see home page for ride information and discounts)

· Plus musical entertainment and refreshments

· Reunion Dinner -            5:30-6pm start at the Tomerong School of Arts. The cost will be $45 for a fully catered meal. All past and present students, staff and parents are invited. Bookings may be made either by accessing the form here—Go to Reunion Dinner Booking Form-  or by contacting the School on 02 4443 4376. The sale of Reunion Dinner Tickets will close on Friday 21 September. This is our deadline for catering purposes and also the last day of the school term and therefore the last day that tickets may be paid for. Thank you.


Sunday 30 September 2012—10:30 am to 3 pm

· Church service at Tomerong Union Church (Time tba)

· New South Wales versus Tasmania Veterans Woodchop including standing block, underhand, two man combo, double handed sawing and NSW versus TAS veterans team race (approx. 10:30 start)

· Bullock Team Display

· Tomerong Public School Photographic Display

· Tomerong Local History Photographic Display

· Spinning & Weaving Displays

· Refreshments available.
