Embedded News - How to

You can provide a separate Web 2.0 blog site that can be easily updated with the latest school news by school staff, using a web browser.

Then you can embed that site within your school web site.

Whenever the Web 2.0 blog news site is updated, the news items will be updated on the school web site.

  1. 1.Create a Google account, if you don’t already have one.

(You can also use other blog sites such as WordPress.)

  2. 2.Go to www.blogger.com and create a blog using your Google username and password.

  3. 3.Choose a plain template, which will be easier to embed neatly into your web site.

  4. 4.Create a new Post, and click on the Publish Post button.

  5. 5.In iWeb, insert a Web Widget > HTML Snippet.

  6. 6.In the HTML Snippet window type the following code:

    <object type="text/html" data="http://somewhereps-news.blogspot.com" width="610" height="500"></object>

    replacing
    http://somewhereps-news.blogspot.com
with the address of your blog.

You can vary the height and width parameters to suit the size of your page.

  7. 7.Your school news blog site will now appear within your iWeb page.

Publish the site as you normally would, either to a .Mac account, or FTP to your site host server.

  8. 8.Working back in your blog again, create a new Post, and click on the Publish Post button.

  9. 9.Refresh your school web site in your web browser to see the updated news items from your news blog site.

(Note: Some corporate networks may block access to Web 2.0 sites.)
